Diego J. Richarte has won the second monthly award in the Plaza in Focus photography competition launched in July by the RMR in Ronda to celebrate the 225th anniversary of its bullring in Ronda. The winner, a student from Arcos de la Frontera, who has been awarded with a cash prize of € 200, has managed to share their particular way of seeing the plaza in a photograph entitled “Torear no es cosa de niños” (Bullfighting isn’t child’s play): originality and creativity to add a little fun to the competition. The image will be used in promotional material by the bullring in Ronda and included in an exhibition when the competition comes to a close. 

This month we’d like to make a special mention to Jake Delaney for his image “La Muerte Perfecta” (The perfect death. An Australian based in New York, Delaney found out about the competition after having already visited the monument. He quickly rushed back to test out his love for Polaroids, The Impossible Project, old expired film and vintage cameras before heading to the airport.

The competition has been launched via Flickr and has been popular amongst visitors with almost 200 images uploaded in the first two months. The RMR hopes to get visitors to share their unique way of seeing and experiencing the monument during its 225th anniversary. The idea is to get their creative juices roused by the architecture, history, arts and culture of a monument that has been the inspiration for fabulous artists such as Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway. 

The photography contest will run until the 15th December 2010 awarding the best images taken by visitors of the bullring, manège and exhibition rooms and uploaded to the Flickr platform.
